Tanker attacked in Gulf of Guinea, crew taken hostage
The "Leon Dias" was attacked late on Jan 29, 2016, in the Gulf of Guinea in position 02 30N 005 35E. If it was a piracy attack, or the hijack as claimed by militants, was yet unclear. A source at Secure Anchorage Area, a joint project between the Nigerian navy and British-owned security companies Ocean Marine Solutions and PGS Group, has issued a high confidence level piracy report that the "Leon Dias" was attacked at around 0010 a.m. LT. Five crew members were being held hostage, and the chief officer was seriously injured. The vessel which was bound for Bata turned around and headed towards Cotonou.
