Oil spill during STS transfer in Rotterdam
On Feb 24, 2025, an oil spill occurred during a ship-to-ship transfer of oil from the bunker tanker 'Long Beach' (MMSI: 269057015) to the 'Star Bonaire' after its arrival from the port of Purfleet, in the Waalhaven of Rotterdam. The Hebo Maritiemservice has been called in to clean up the pollution. The Port Authority was quickly on site with two vessels too. The initial estimate was that between 1,000 and 1,500 litres of lubricating oil had leaked, causing a huge stain. Oil-retaining screens and absorbent booms were placed in the water to contain the oil. The oil was then sucked from the water with the the skimmer of the 'Hebo-Cat 6'. The 'Hebo-Cat 9' was also deployed. The salvors of Hebo expected that there would be little environmental damage.
Pilot boat hit tanker
On Dec 10, 2012 short past midnight the "Star Bonaire" was in collision with the bilot boat "Lotse 1" in the port of Hamburg off the Rüschpark. The "Lotse 12" had taken the port pilot to the "Star Bonaire". While moving away again, the ships touched each other. The tanker suffered a dent and scatches in the bow region. It berthed in basin 3 of the seaport Harburg at 1.30 a.m., leaving bound for Rotterdam around 6 p.m. The "Lotse 1" was taken out of Service and surveyed in a Yard during the day, where the rudder was found to be dented and the Propeller damaged. Also the ship had suffered a gash in the water line. The Police launched an Investigation and secured the Radar data in the Nautical Center therefore.
