Tank barge lightered and refloated
Lightering of the "Somtrans XXV" commenced on Mar 12 at 2.30 p.m. The Rhine was barred for ship traffic during the Transfer of naphta on the "Somtrans X" which had berthed alongside the casualty vessel which had on board 5600 tons of cargo. After 2000 tons were transferred, the tank barge refloated and was permitted to continue the voyage to its Destination Dormagen after rurveys by experts. The ship had suffered technical trouble in the morning and could not be held within the fairway by the master. Tank barge grounded on the Rhine
Coming from Hansweert, the "Somtrans XXV", 7162 ts (EU-No.: 02333652), ran aground on the Rhine at river km 737 in Düsseldorf-Hamm in the morning of Mar 12, 2016. To get the ship off, a part of the cargo of 6000 tons naphta had to be lightered. For this purpose the "Somtrans X" was called. Water police and fire rescue were on site.
