Motor yacht towed to Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue
On Sep 3, 2024, at around 10 a.m. the French 12-m-motor yacht 'Sirius' suffered an engine failure off the coast of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue (Manche) with three people on board. The boaters requested assistance from the CrOSS Jobourg approximately 2.5 nautical miles (northeast of the coast of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. The boat was adrift but without risk, as there was no wind. The 'SNS 210-Président Jules Pinteaux' of the SNSM station in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue was deployed to assist and established a towing connection to the 'Sirius', which had left the marina of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue some time earlier. Sailing yacht towed to safety
The SNSM was asked to assist the 7-m-sailing yacht 'Caracole' with engine failure with three people on board, off Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue in the evening of April 20, 2023. At around 8:30 p.m. the CROSS Jobourg was alerted after the yacht, en route from the port of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin to the port of Dives-sur-Mer broke down about 2.5 miles east of the port of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. The 'President Jules Pinteaux-SNS 210' from the SNSM station of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue first save the crew and then took the sailboat in tow. At around 9:30 p.m., the boat was safely docked at a pontoon in the port of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue.
Lifeboat involved in dramatic rescue operation from sinking cutter
On Sep 5, 2015, at 3:40 p.m., the cutter "Marie Madeleine" from Saint Vaast-la-Hougue, ran aground on the Saint-Marcouf islands with 16 people on board. They have been evacuated by the SNSM lifeboats of Barfleur and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. In the morning of Sep 9, 2015, the captain of "Mary Magdalene" accompanied by a team of workers of the shipyard of Saint-Vaast was transferred aboard the sailboat by the "SNS 086 - Admiral de Tourville" from Barfleur order to conduct work to prepare the refloating of the ship. At 8:05 p.m., the CROSS Jobourg was informed by the "SNS 086 - Admiral de Tourville" that the ship broke up. The five men were still on board in a dangerous situation. Upon receipt of the distress alert, the CROSS Jobourg sent a EC 225 helicopter of the Navy base Belligou and the "SNS 210 - President Julius Pinteaux". While two people were hoist by the helicopter, the ship continued to fall apart. The three others who had remained on board fell into the sea. The lifeboat recovered one person, and the helicopter of the Navy was able to recover the last two people. At 8:45 p.m. all castaways were safe and taken to Saint-Vaast.
