Bridge allision in Ruisbroek
in the afternoon of Dec 27, 2015, the "Vios", 3160 ts (EU-No.: 02324796), around 2 p.m. allided with the Boulevard Bridge on the Brussels-Scheldt Canal in Ruisbroek (Puurs). The ship, loaded with containers with sportswear, was en route to Willebroek when it slammed into the bridge due to human error. The master was able to maneuver the ship free again assisted by waves created by another ship, and the "Vios" moored at nearby pilings. The bridge which had been pushed upwards 50 centimeters was temporarily closed to traffic for a technical inspection of the damage. Also, the exit Willebroek-Noord on the A12 was closed. Three containers cof the "Vios" were damaged too, and one threatened to fall over board, so the waterway was closed as a precaution. The crew stabilized the container again by fixing it with straps.
