Search for fisherman who fell over board
In the afternoon of Dec 3, 2022, a crew member of the 'Sighvatur - GK 57' fell over board in Faxaflói Bay. Several ships and aircraft started to look for the man in an area of 10 square miles. On Dec 5 the search area was widened to an area of 18 square miles. The search conditions were good with light north-northeast winds. 15 ships and two helicopters took part in the search with dozens of helpers. Also the Coast Guard participated in the SAR operation. The area of operation has been gradually expanded from the calculated whereabouts of the ship and the ocean currents had been included. The missing man comes from Grindavík.
