Oil spill during bunkering in Ust-Luga

In the port of Ust-Luga, a fuel oil spill occurred during bunkering of the "Lowlands Horizon" at the quay of the coal terminal on Jan 21, 2019, at 9:35 p.m. while bunkering from the tanker "Vanino". The supply of the bunker was urgently stopped, and the crew of the bulk carrier began collecting the spilled oil. AT 11.30 p.m. two inspectors of the Port Control of Ust-Luga were sent to the site to assess the nature of the pollution. The estimated amount of fuel oil located on the deck and sides of the vessel was 3-5 cubic meters. The estimated amount of fuel oil trapped on the ice at the ship’s side was 50-100 kg. The causes of the incident were investigated.
