Attempt of Seelöwe to raise sunken insel taxi failed
On Feb 24, 2021, the 'Seelöwe' tried in vain to recover the motoryacht 'Melanie', which had served as an island taxi in Langeoog until she sank in the island port early on Feb 19. Divers had inspected the hull of the yacht without tracing a larger leak. In spite of five pumps working the boat did not raise, and at 5.30 p.m. the attempt was aboarted. N-Ports had deployed the ‘Seelöwe‘ to Langeoog in the morning with the divers on board. They fixed lifting straps under the hull and attached them to the crane of the vessel. But this was too weak to pull the hull out of the sediment. Already on Feb 24 the fuel tanks of the 'Melanie' had been drained.
