Windfarm support vessel suffered flooded engine room

Mon Sep 25 12:29:45 CEST 2017 Timsen

The crew from the Lowestoft RNLI Lifeboat "Patsy Knight" was alerted on Sep 24, 2017, just after half past midnight to the "Broads Fisher” which had called for help when a significant quantity of water was spotted in one of the craft’s engine compartments. The wind farm support vessel was 14 miles south-east of the port and returning from working on the Galloper Windfarm Project. Upon the arrival at the "Broads Fisher", two other windfarm craft, the "Dalby Ouse" and "FOB Swath 4", were standing by and escorting the stricken vessel and its crew of five. The starboard engine compartment was flooded but that the ship was still able to make headway with the other engine. Lifeboat crewman James Tacon was put on board their boat with a salvage pump and with this he managed to expel much of the water, which it seemed had come from a broken pipe. The RNLI boat escorted the vessel as it limped back to Lowestoft in the gently rolling but bumpy sea conditions. Once there the crew helped to moor the ship at the Shell Quay in Lake Lothing at 3.30 a.m. Report with photos: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2017/september/24/lowestoft-rnli-lifeboat-called-to-windfarm-vessel-taking-on-water
