14 rescued migrants taken to Reggio Calabria

Wed Jan 29 21:11:45 CET 2025 Timsen

On Jan 29, the 'Sea Punk 1' arrived in the port of Reggio Calabria with 14 people on board, who have been rescued in the Strait of Sicily. The group consisted of 10 Pakistanis, two Egyptians and two Bangladeshis. The migrants were temporarily welcomed in the temporary structure built inside the port area, where the ritual health and administrative checks took place. Foreign citizens will then be assigned to other locations according to the distribution program established by the Ministry of the Interior.

17 migrants rescued, two children died

Mon Jan 27 21:05:39 CET 2025 Timsen

A migrant boat that capsized in Malta's Search and Rescue zone claimed the lives of two children, while 17 others were rescued by the 'Sea Punk 1' on Jan 26, 2025, including a pregnant woman and a critically injured man. The ship's medical team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on two other children, successfully saving one. Two persons were still believed to be missing at sea. The rescue occurred on the early morning within Malta's Search and Rescue (SAR) zone. A Maltese SAR helicopter airlifted the pregnant woman and the severely injured man, while an Italian Coastguard vessel took on board the remaining 15 survivors and recovered the bodies of the two children. Survivors recounted that the boat originally carried 21 people from Cameroon and Nigeria. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary chamber in Cala Pisana. The parents of the two toddlers were among the survivors.

Offshore vessel broke down

Thu Aug 21 11:17:01 CEST 2014 Timsen

The Harwich RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat was called to assist the "Ocean Dawn" that had broken down 27 miles out to sea. The charity’s volunteer lifeboat crew launched at 10.10 a.m. on Aug 17, 2014, following a call for help from the crew of the Ocean Dawn. The vessel’s engines had failed and it was drifting close to the Gabbard Wind Farm. The lifeboat, in fairly rough weather, towed the vessel into the safety of Harwich harbour where it was moored at the Navyard Wharf at 4 p.m. All five persons onboard were well.
