Crew member died in spite of medevac off Chios

The 'Sea Brave' interrupted its voyage from Varna to Haifa and moored at the Chios port anchorage off Chios island in the morning of Aug 25, 2021, due to a medical emergency. A 42-year old Filipino crew member was in need of immediate hospitalization after losing consciousness. He was medevaced by the 'Isidoros' of the Prefecture of Chios and taken to shore, from where an ambulance transported him to the General Hospital of Chios, where he was pronounced dead. There was no information on the cause of his death. A preliminary investigation is carried out by the Port Authority, while an autopsy was ordered.

Fire in cargo hold

The 'Sea Brave' suffered a fire in the cargo hold at pier 26 in Savona, on Nov 12, 2019, at 9 p.m. The ship was carrying corn in bulk. The alarm was triggered when some crew members saw smoke coming out of two bins of phosphine, a chemical compound of phosphorus hydrogen (PH3), which is used as a pest control to counteract the problems of storing cereals by pests, insects and molds. The emergency plan was immediately activated , which involved a team of fire departments of the port detachment. The firefighters then took the two bins out of the hold and secured them. No injuries or damages were reported, and the fire did not spread to the other compartments of the ship. An investigation by the authorities was launched.
