Migrant boat assisted to La Restinga
The crew of the 'Salvamar Navia' was notified on the nightof July 29 by the CCS of Salvamento MArítimo in Tenerife, following an alert from the Guardia Civil about a cayuco, which had been located four nautical miles off La Restinga. The SAR boat located it and escorted the migrants to the dock in La Restinga, where the Health Services and State Security Forces were attending. On the afternoon of July 26, the Guardia Civil informed the CSS of Salvamento Marítimo in Tenerife of a radar echo, which could possibly was a cayuco, sailing two nautucal miles off La Restinga. The watchstanders mobilized the 'Salvamar Navia' and the LS 'Hades' of the Cruz Roja. The crew of the 'Salvamar Navia' located the boat and escorted it to the port of La Restinga, where 47 people safely disembarked. Seven dead, one baby missing, and two hospiotalized after cayuco capsized in La Restinga
On the morning of May 28, a 20-m- cayuco was located by SIVE about six nautical miles off La Restinga. It was escorted to the dock by the the SAR boat 'Salvamar Diphda', but the narrow boat with a beam of only three metres capsized a few metres from the port, as it the more than 150 people on board were about to disembark. A large group of people have been rescued, but so far, seven people have been found dead (four women, two five-year-old girls and a 16-year-old girl). A baby was missing, and two girls, who were rescued in poor condition, have been taken to Tenerife by helicopter. Besides the 'Salvamar Diphda', also the 'Salvamar Navia', the National Police, the Civil Guard/GEAS, diving clubs, the Red Cross, and medical personnel and workers who were on the dock, were involved in the SAR operation.
