Cog to be given away
An electrical failure caused the sinking of the "Roland von Bremen" on the Weser. The heating broke down and then a cock froze. The following water ingress caused the vessel to sink because the automatic bilge pumps did not work. To get the ship back sailing half a Million Euro would have to be invested. The owner Hal Över could afford the maintenance costs for the ship no longer and would give it away to anyone with a concept for the operation of the cog.
Fortuna took Roland alongside
On Jan 31 the "Roland von Bremen" was taken alongside and towed by the tug "Fortuna" from the berth at the Schlachte on the Weser to the Hohentors Port which was about 3 kilometers away for damage survey. The transit took one hour. Before, technicians had been able to fix an electro engine to flip the mast as well as the main engine after cleaning. But the interior of the cog suffered severe damage, oil had spilt inside, and silt had penetraded the hull. Repairs may take several months. After the "Roland von Bremen" was finally dewatered on Jan 29 around midday, technicians were trying to get an electro engine working which is responsible for the hydraulic to get the 20-m-mast flipped so that the ship can pass underneath the Weser bridges. The ship is to be taken to the Hohentors Port and lifted onto shore with a crane there.
