Medevac in Franse Gaatje
After the exercise with KNRM Lifeguards the lifeboat "Graaf van Bylandt" on Aug 3, 2014, got a message from the "Brandaris" that a crew member of the "Resnova" had suffered back injuries in a fall on board. The ship was on the ground at the Franse Gaatje. The patient had difficulty in breathing and as suffering a lot of pain. The lifeboat responded, and a doctor on Vlieland was alerted. The "Huibert Dijkstra" rushed to the "Resnova" to assist with first aid, while the "Graaaf van Bylandt" took on board the doctor and rushed to the "Resnova". A physician, some men and a stretcher were transferred onto the ship in the shallow water. After examining the patient it was decided to take him to Vlieland for further radiological evaluation. With the stretcher he was transferred by the "Hubert Dijkstra" onto the "Graaf van Bylandt". 15 minutes later he was delivered to an ambulance at the pier in the port of Vlieland.
