Ferry suffered turbocharger issue

Tue Sep 23 14:02:57 CEST 2025 Timsen

The 'Queen of Surrey' , serving on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route ,was pulled from service on Sep 20 due to a mechanical issue in the main engine turbocharger. The failure resulted in multiple cancellations over the weekend, and long lines of travellers at BC Ferries terminals. Some foot passengers resorted to taking water taxis across the water, while others were left scrambling for alternative transportation. Engineering teams worked through the night to get the vessel up and running again. After the damae was repaired, some cancelled sailings were reinstated. Transport Canada approved the ferry’s return in time on Sep 21 for the 1:15 p.m. departure from the Sunshine Coast community of Langdale. Bringing back the 'Queen of Surrey' also allowed for the 'Queen of Oak Bay' and the 'Queen of Alberni Äto return to their normal routes and schedules, allowing for some previously cancelled sailings from Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay to move ahead.
