Detention in Kocaeli

The "Princess Sara" was detained on July 28, 2025, in Kocaeli with 22 deficiencies, six of which being regarded as seriously and grounds for a detention: 1) Alarms - Steering gear alarm Inoperative 2) Water/Weathertight - Windows, Sidescuttles and deadlight Damaged 3) Fire safety - Fire dampers Not as required 4) Fire safety - Fire pump and its pipes Not as required 5) Fire safety - Fire doors/openings in fire resisting division Not as required 6) ISM - Ism certificate Not as required The vessel was released again on July 29 and left the port enroute to Constanta, where it finally arrived on July 31. Old projectile exploded in cargo hold

In the afternoon of May 28, 2021, an explosion occurred inside the cargo hold of the 'Princess Sara', while scrap metal was being loaded onto the ship at the new port of Sidon. One of the workers had noticed an old projectile in the cargo hold before it exploded. The vessel suffered some damages, but no injuries were reported. A military expert from the Lebanese army and security forces attended and worked to inspect the site of the explosion and investigate its cause. Likewise, members of the Popular Rescue Regiment attended and worked to verify that there were no casualties among the ranks of the dockers and crew members who were present at the time of the explosion. The General Security arrested the person responsible for loading the scrap iron cargo that included the shell which caused the incident, and the operator who picked up the shell in an attempt to get rid of it. Following the instructions of the government commissioner to the military court, the detainees were referred to the military court for interrogation.
