Ferry suffered mechanical failure
Nearly 1,000 passengers were left stranded on the morning of July 13, 2025, at the Port of Piraeus after a mechanical failure on the 'Poseidonas' halted its scheduled journey to the Saronic Gulf islands of Aegina and Agistri. The vessel, which was carrying 950 passengers along with 40 cars, 35 motorcycles, and three buses, was unable to depart due to a malfunction in its port side main engine. The breakdown caused significant delays and frustration among travelers to the nearby islands. The departure was cancelled shortly before it was set to leave. The ferry operator has announced that it will make alternative arrangements to transport all passengers to their intended destinations.
Ferry suffered electrical problem
On the morning of June 21, 2025, the Port Authority of Argosaronic Gulf was informed by the Captain of the'Poseidonas', that before its departure on the scheduled route from Piraeus to Aegina and Agistri with 743 passengers, 54 vehicles, two buses and 32 two-wheeled vehicles on board, an.electrical problem occurred, causing an inability to raise the anchors. The Argosaronic Gulf Port Guard prohibited the ship from sailing until the damage was repaired and a certificate of class maintenance was presented by the monitoring classification society. The passengers and vehicles were forwarded to their destination with the company's care.
Engine trouble off Piraeus
The 'Poseidon Hellas' was forced to return to the port of Piraeus on Dec 28, after experiencing engine trouble while it was sailing north of Aegina island in the Saronic Gulf, en route from the islet of Angistri to Aegina, carrying 182 passengers, 18 crew members, 43 cars, three trucks and nine motorcycles. The ship suffererd a malfunction in its port side main engine, prompting the decision to return to Piraeus at reduced speed amid strong winds.
