Man jumped behind dog and died in lock
A 25 year old crew member of the 'Porter' died after trying to save his dog in the Ghent Ringvaart in the morning of May 15, 2022. The animal wanted to jump from the ship onto the quay of the Evergem lock, but landed in the water between the vessel and the quay. When ´ the young man jumped after him, he was crushed between the quay and the ship. His father tried to resuscitate him as well as the paramedics, but it was too late. His girlfriend took the puppy that survived the fall.
