Fire in Harstad
On Feb 18, 2020, at 8 p.m. a smouldering fire was reported aboard the Polar Girl' in the hall of a yard at Hamek in Harstad in Havøysund. It was located between the hull and the cladding, and work ws being done to gain control over the situation which was challenging as there were no open flames or smoke. No persons were injured and there was no danger of spreading. There were two men on board who were in good condition. Smoke divers of the Måsøy fire rescue went on board, and a little later, the fire was put out. It could be confined to a small area around an electrical installation. Tour boat pulled off
The "Polargirl" after it ran aground in the Isfjord near Longyearbyen on Svalbard in the afternoon of July 10, was pulled off the rocks short before 8 p.m. the same day and headed for Longyearbyen with own engine. The ship was escorted by the two ships that had assisted in the salvage.
Charter boat ran aground
The "Polargirl" ran aground in the Isfjord near Longyearbyen on Svalbard in the afternoon of July 10, 2012. There were 28 people, including a crew of five, in on board when it ran aground just off the abandoned mining town Grumant around 5 p.m. The passengers were evacuated and transported by boat and helicopter to Longyearbyen, which is about 15 kilometers away where they were met by the police. There was good weather and little wind in the area, and the crew of the boat stated that there was no danger for the ship which is running daily trips from Longyearbyen and into the cities of Barentsburg and Pyramiden.
