Captain died in ship tank
The 54-year-old captain of the "Relationship III " was found unconscious in a not yet degassed benzene tank on Feb 2, 2015. A doctor determined that he was deceased around noon. The "Relationship III" was unloaded in Monnheim/Dormagen at Rhine km km 709. A crew member found the captain in the empty tank at 10.30 a.m. The tank previously was filled with toxic benzene. The man was pulled out by firefighters from Cologne. 55 firefighters wree involved in the operation. Two other crew members, the 29-year-old son of the victim and a 23-year-old sailor were examined as a precaution in the hospital. The police started investigating the cause of the accident.
