Cement tanker suffered water ingress
On May 24, 2019, at 7.50 a.m. there was a flooding in the engine room of the 'Nicolaije', 625 ts (EU-No.: 02315792), which was moored in Overschild on the Ems Canal at the Bloemhof Bridge. The fire brigade from Siddeburen was alerted and placed a dewatering pump inside the engine room. The water, as it was contaminated, was caught by a tanker which had been called from Delfzijl. Meanwhile, the skipper tried to track the leak in the pipes of the ballast water system while standing in a wetsuit in the oil-water mixture. The ship was carrying a load of cement from Eemshaven to Groningen.
