Grounding on Göta Alv

Thu Sep 19 21:30:54 CEST 2019 Timsen

On Sep 19, 2019, around 6 p.m. the "Phantom", enroute from Gothenburg, where it had sailed at 2.15 p.m., to Lidköping with a cargo of coke and coal, ran aground and suffered water ingress on the Göta River at Lilla Edet. The ship developed a slight list, and eight units of the Maritime and Air Rescue Center attended. The shop backed off from the shallow with own engine and berthed at a pier on the Göta Alv where divers inspected the hull. The ship finally reached its destination on Sep 23 and berthed in the East Port of Lidköping at 10.45 p.m. Swedish report with photo: https://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=104&artikel=7303226

Report: 'Phantom' ship drama in 2012 caused by overloading

Fri Jul 12 10:20:15 CEST 2013 arnekiel

Too much load on the deck, inappropriate ballast to stabilize the ship, and poor manuals and guidelines for securing the load are the reasons behind drama at sea involving the Gibraltar-flagged Phantom outside of Öland in 2012. The report on the incident has been compiled by the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority (Statens Haverikommission) and published on Thursday, July 11th. Oskarshamn Yard carrying out repairs

Sat Feb 25 16:43:34 CET 2012 Timsen

The investigation of the "Phantom"-accident will take at least until the summer. The Accident Investigation Board is awaiting a report on the stability of the vesselActually they do not know what caused the list, but it is clear that the vessel had suffered a shift of the deck cargo. The "Phantom" is still at the dock in Oskarsham. Repairs are to be carried out on the electrical wiring in the cabins. It will be done at the shipyard in Oskarshamn within about a month.
