Trawler towed to Ilfracombe

Mon Sep 16 10:31:06 CEST 2024 Timsen

On Sep 14, 2024, at midnight theIllfracombe RNLi boat was tasked by the UK Coastguard to assist the Padstow lifeboat in towing the 'Our Olivia Belle'. The fishing trawler had broken down and was taking on water. The crews launched the lifeboat 'Shannon' and took over the tow three miles northeast of Hartland. The size and weight of the trawler and the need to take great care meant that progress was slow. At Ilfracombe’s outer harbour, the 'Our Olivia Belle'’s sister ship 'Our Dylan Ben' was able to take over the tow while the 'Shannon' shadowed to ensure all safely reached the moorings in the inner harbour. Five hours after launching, the lifeboat was recovered.

Fishing vessel distressed off Tenby

Tue Apr 25 12:26:50 CEST 2023 Timsen

The Tenby's all weather lifeboat was launched on April 24, 2023, at 4.20 p.m., following a mayday from the 'Our Olivia Belle', reporting they were taking on water 20 miles south west of Tenby. As the crew of the trawler was preparing to deploy a liferaft, the volunteer crew of the 'Haydn Miller' made best speed to the position, along with the Angle all-weather lifeboat, the Coastguard rescue helicopter R924 from Newquay in Cornwall, an MOD Range safety vessel and a survey ship that happened to be in the area. With the Angle lifeboat first on scene, they transferred two crew members, along with their salvage pump, aboard the vessel to assist the crew in attempting to pump out the water. Shortly afterwards, the crew reported that the vessel's own pumps were managing to lower the water levels, after the source of the leak had been located and repaired, so the rescue helicopter was stood down, along with the survey vessel. Both Tenby and Angle lifeboats then stood-by until the skipper of the trawler was happy that he could make his own way back to Ilfracombe. The Angle lifeboat retrieved their crew and pump and then both lifeboats returned to their respective stations, with Tenby arriving back on station at 6.35 p.m. Report with photos: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2023/april/24/tenby-lifeboat-joins-huge-response-after-mayday-from-sinking-trawler
