Maas closed for shipping after collision

Mon Sep 01 11:08:47 CEST 2025 Timsen

On the morning of Aug 29, 2025, the inland vessel 'Septimo' (MMSI 244660432), en route from Rotterdam with five crew members on board and fully loaded with 3,200 tons of rapeseed, and the 'Orteo', en route from Schwelgern with pushed barges, were in collision on the Waal near Winssen close to the the Tacitus Bridge. The 'Septimo' was pushed aground. The barge 'VHG 99' remained stuck on one of the vessel's bollards in pos. 51° 53' N 005° 44' E. Another barge had to be retrieved, as it had been detached and anchored between two groins, slightly closer to the Tacticus Bridge of the A50. The Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management partially closed the river at 4:30 a.m. The 'Septimo' was sailing upstream from Rotterdam, when struck by the 'Orfeo', en route from Schwelgern, sailing towards Rotterdam, The bollard was to be welded off, which was expected to take several hours. Shipping was allowed to pass under the escort of the Rijkswaterstaat patrol boat 'P 137' (MMSI: 244059814) on the north bank, one by one, thereby minimizing wave action. At midday, the ships were separated, and 85 waiting vessels were able to continue the voyage after 11 hours. The 'Septimo', which was significantly damaged at the bow, returned to Werkendam, where the cargo was transferred to another vessel, before being repaired at a shipyard. The 'Orfeo' berthed in Rotterdam on Aug 29. Report with photos: https://www.schuttevaer.nl/nieuws/actueel/2025/08/29/stremming-waal-na-aanvaring-vrachtschip-en-koppelverband/
