Medevac off Penmarc'h
A Russian crew member of the 'Viva Unity', en route from Istanbul to Ghent, was medevaced in the night of Dec 21, 2023, in the Bay of Biscay. The CROSS Etel received a call from the vessel after the man suffered health problems. After a remote consultation, the doctor concluded that there was no emergency to evacuate the sailor but his condition deteriorated and, shortly before 4 p.m., it was decided to take care of the patient. The ship, which was too far from the coast, moved closer to Penmarc’h, and an H160 helicopter took off from the Lanvéoc base at 11:13 p.m. The patient was airlifted at 12:20 a.m. 180 nautical miles from Penmarc’h and transported to the hospital Cavale Blanche in Brest.
