Tanker intercepted by NATO ships
The German frigate FGS 'Hamburg' (MMSI: 211905000), supported by the Italian 'Carlo Margottini' (MMSI:_ 247321300), in the course of the Operation IRINI, which was started in May, intercepted the 'Royal Diamond 7' in international waters 150 kilometers off Derna, Libya, in the morning of Sep 10, 2020, off the Libyan coast, for carrying illegal military cargo to Bengazi. The tanker had left Sharjah on Aug 26 with a cargo of jet fuel, classified by UN Security Council Resolution 2292, as military, because it may be used, by the Libyan National Army (LNA) Air Force fighter jets Mig-29 and Su-24. "Royal Diamond" fire case: Court grants bail to 2 S Koreans
A local court on Saturday granted bail to two South Korean nationals who are facing a case for criminal negligence following an explosion and fire on the chemical tanker Royal Diamond on March 17 at a port here. "The court granted bail to master of the vessel, Chung Hyunil, and chief engineer Kim Seong Hun," said advocate Rishi Buta, their lawyer. They are facing bailable charges, so the magistrate granted them bail on personal bonds of 25,000 each. There was an explosion on the ship on March 17, followed by a fire. Six people were injured while one died. Again, on March 25, a day before the Port Trust authorities were going to visit the ship for inspection and inquiry, there was another explosion. Two died in fire
A South Korean crew member of the "Royal Diamond 7" was on Mar 24 killed and six others were injured when a fire broke out on the ship. One of two South Korean nationals who received severe burns, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted from the state-run J.J. Hospital to Masina Hospital. At 11.235 a.m. the "Royal Diamond 7" reported to the Mumbai port's vessel traffic system control station that an explosion had occurred and three crew members had been injured. Immediately, a tug was dispatched to bring the injured to shore. Besides two Koreans and a Filipino, four local workers engaged by the owner received injuries in the blaze. They were rushed to nearby J.J. Hospital and St George Hospital by ambulance of the port trust fire brigade. After the fire on board the tanker on Mar 17 when it was berthed at New Pir Pau Pier in Mumbai it was shifted to the 'Tanker Anchorage - One' at Mumbai harbour. The incident occurred at the same store room where the explosion and fire took place on MAr 17. The fire was immediately brought under control and everything was back to normal on board the tanker by 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the senior management of the port visited the tanker to have a first-hand assessment of the incident.
