Nameplate of sunken ship returned to owner

Tue Jan 31 11:16:07 CET 2017 Timsen

A wooden nameplate of the "Asannat" was washed onto the beach of Oostkapelle in Zeeland. The ship sank on Dec 27, 2016, off the English coast. One fisherman died, a second could be saved, a third crew member was still missing. Wreck of Asannat taken to Ostende

Sat Dec 31 15:04:56 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Asannat" was righted and taken into the port of OStende in the afternoon of Dec 31. Everything went smoothly. The wreck will be further investigated by the prosecutor's office. The salvage company Multraship from Terneuzen had righted the wreck and returned the ship into the water using the crane barge "Cormorant", the "Multratug 11" , "Multrasalvor 3" and divers. The "Provider" from Nieuwport ensured that the fishing vessel was stable and did not sink. The journey back to the port of Ostend started at midnight at the height of Ramsgate and took 99 kilometers across the sea in the direction of Ostende. More than twelve hours later, the ship arrived in the port in the slings of the crane. The owner Willy Versluys already indicated that the ship will be a total loss. Meanwhile, the body of Eric Maeckelbergh (38), the Ostend fisherman who was killed, was released by the prosecutors. The third crew member, a Spaniard, was still missing. Survivor testified about capsize

Thu Dec 29 19:49:37 CET 2016 Timsen

Johny Ronsijn returned to Ichtegem after his rescue 11 hours after the capsize of the "Asannat", 62 gt, off Ramsgate. On Dec 27 around 11 p.m. the fishing vessel had disappeared from the radar while the ship was hauling up the nets. Ronsijn was on the starboard side, his colleagues on the port side. Both nets hung were hanging high on both sides of the boat when a loud bang was heard. The ship capsized within a few momants, and automatically the load came in. The fisher had to jump quickly to escape from the nets. He jumped into the water, the others probably too, when the ship turned bottom up within a few seconds. He cut his suit with a knife because it filled with water. He came up and did not know immediately where he was, but fortunately the lights on the ship kept burning underwater. So he returned to the ship and tried to climb up the bow which was too high. So he swam along the ship and climbed onto the keel at the stern when it came down in the swell. He also found the raft which, however, had not inflated. During the following hours he tried to survive by pulling the sweater over his head and breathng into that sweater in order to keep his head warm. After a tanker remarked the man, a helicpter of the British Coastguard hoisted him on board.
