Lost ship had a checkered maintenance history

The 'Noah Satu', which sank after an engine room fire as it transited off the coast of Tuban with a cargo of corn, headed for the port of Ciwandan, had a checkered maintenance history, including a long list of past inspection deficiencies. Australian officials identified a heightened safety risk aboard the 'Noah Satu' and banned the ship in 2016. After the vessel failed two port state control inspections in the span of a year, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority prohibited the 'Noah Satu' for returning for at least 12 months. The vessel was never inspected by a foreign port state control team again, and AIS data showed that it has only traded within Indonesia since at least 2020.

Cargo ship sank following engine room fire

A fire occurred in the engine room of the 'Noah Satu' with 16 crew members on board on June 24, 2024 at 2.12 p.m. LT in the waters of Tuban in the Java Sea, en route from Calabai to Ciwandan with a cargo of corn. One person suffered minor burns. No environmental pollution was reported. The fire coundld be extinguished, but the 'Noah Satu' sank a few hours later eight nautical north of Sluke Rembang. The Tanjung Perak PLP Base coordinated the response with KSOP Tanjung Pakis and Disnav Tanjung Perak Surabaya and deployed the patrol boat KN 'Chundamani-P 116' to the scene, along with KSOP Tanjung Pakis personnel. On June 25, the 'Chundamani' arrived and took on board the Captain and the 1st Engineer to Surabaya for further treatment. A total of 12 crew members, including one oiler who had suffered minor burns, were taken aboard the TB 'Mitra Anugerah 27' and transported to Tuban Harbor to receive further medical treatment. Grounding in Sunda Strait

The 'Noah Satu', while enroute from Panjang to Makassar with a cargo of 2,500 tons of tapioca on board, ran aground at the northern coast of Sebuku island, Sunda Strait, in the morning of Oct 14, 2020. The ship was listing to port side. It was refloated in the morning of Oct 18 with the help of a tug and taken to Bakauheni anchorage. It was to be inspected on Oct 19 for possible damages.
