Grounding at Saltstraumen
On Aug 21, 2019, at 7.25 p.m. the "Nidarø" with a crew of five on board lost engine power at Saltstraumen and ran aground on rocks just north of the bridge on the Knaplund side. Though the vessel regained engine power soon after, the captain chose to wait for the arrival of the alerted NSSR-lifeboat "Hermann Horn" to assist in refloating it. Also a Sea King helicopter was placed on standby. By 8 p.m. the lifeboat managed to pull the ship off and into the deeper waters of the fjord. It berthed in the port of Bodø at 9.40 p.m. and sailed again after inspections on Aug 23 at 4 a.m., headed to Nidar, ETA 3 p.m. Norwegian report with photos and video: https://www.an.no/nyheter/saltstraumen/bodo/se-video-av-redningsaksjonen-i-saltstraumen/s/5-4-1067991
Cargo ship threatend to drift aground in Stigfjord
On Jan 8, 2017, the lifeboat "Skuld" was called to the "Nidarø" which was drifting towards the shore north of the island Aldra outside of Mo in Rana. The ship with a crew of five on board had suffered engine failure in the Stigfjord in the Lurøy municipality enroute from Bodø to Tommaat 11 a.m.. Bodø radio relayed the mayday call and got response from several vessels. The car ferry "Lovund" diverted to assist as well as the trawler "Cetus" (MMSI: 258054000). There was very bad weather in the area, with southwesterly winds up to gale force so that the anchor dragged. A Sea King rescue helicopter was also on site. The "Skuld" jointly with the "Cetus" were holding the ship in position only 750 meters off the coast, until the tug "Nautilus Balder" (IMO: 8406157) arrived at 3 p.m. to tow the cargo ship to Herøy. The crew, however, managed to restart the engine and berthed in Tomma as planned.
