Cruise ship suffered electrical fire

Wed Dec 11 12:45:07 CET 2024 Timsen

A minor electrical fire occurred aboard the 'MSC Seashore' on the evening Dec 8. It originated in the emergency generator room on deck 18. The cruise ship had just left Port Canaveral and was on its way to Ocean Cay in the Bahamas when, at around 7:30 p.m., passengers noticed smoke. The elevators, dining rooms, and pool deck were temporarily shut down, internet access was affected, the air conditioning in some areas was turned off, and the ship switched to generator power. While the fire was put out very quickly, the electrical shorts caused problems through the ship with lighting, elevator operations, and the smells. Maintenance employees worked through the night and the following day to fix the damage. Despite the setback, the vessel proceeded to Ocean Cay as planned and received additional repairs. It was scheduled to leave Ocean Cay on Dec 10 at noon.

Hurricane keeps cruise ship from returning to Port Canaveral

Thu Sep 26 11:15:21 CEST 2024 Timsen

Guests on the seven-night cruise of the 'MSC Seashore' from Miami, Florida to The Bahamas were informed on Sep 21, 2024, that some of the ports that were on the itinerary were no longer going to be possible because of Hurricane Helene. Initially, guests on the 'MSC Seashore' were supposed to visit Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. However, deeming those areas unsafe, the captain decided early on to avoid the ports and traded them out for ports in Nassau, Puerto Rico, and Grand Turk instead. It was later confirmed that it would also be impossible for the ship to return on Sep 26 to Port Canaveral, Florida as a result of winds expected to be blowing at "50 miles per hour. The passengers instead had a bonus day at sea and will reach the port only when conditions were safe to do so.
