Collision in fog

On Aug 17, 2012, around 6 a.m. the "Contra A" was in collision with another vessel on the Main-Donau-Canal at the lock Strullendorf. The "Contra A" was underway to Nürnberg and got off course. When the Romanian master tried to correct the course towards starboard, the ship got stuck at two buoys, so that he veered back to port where the ship hit with an approaching German 105-m-ship in dense fog. The "Contra A" suffered water ingress in the bow which was breached on 30 centimeters length, but could be kept afloat. The damage was at least 100.000 Euro. The port side anchor was lost and was threatening ship traffic at Strullendorf until divers have recovered it. The "Contra A" was allowed to proceed to Regensburg.
