Medevac off Cherbourg
On Oct 20, 2018, at 1.30 p.m. the CROSS Joburg was informed that a crew member of the "Miho Pracat" was suffering from discomfort. The vessel was 26 miles north-west of Cherbourg in the Casquets traffic separation scheme. The CROSS immediately puts the ship in touch with the medical center of maritime consultation (CCMM) in Toulouse and the maritime medical coordination SAMU in Le Havre, and a medevaco of the sailor as soon as possible was recommended. The CROSS deployed a Drgon 50 helicopter of the Civil Security in Granville with a medical team from the maritime emergency and maritime resuscitation service in Granville and a member of the fire and rescue service (SDIS 50) on board. At 4:20 p.m., after having been conditioned by the medical team on board the ship, the victim was hoisted on board and flown to Caen where she was taken care of at 7 p.m.
