Medevac off Sitka
The US Coast Guard medevaced a man from the 'Matson Anchorage' approximately 150 miles southwest of Sitka, Alaska, in the evening of Sep 16, 2022. Coast Guard Sector Juneau watchstanders received the initial request for the medevac at approximately 5 p.m., from the captain of the ship, who reported that the 45-year-old crewmember was experiencing health complications. A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Air Station Sitka hoisted and transported the patient from the vessel to awaiting emergency medical services (EMS) personnel at the air station Sitka, EMS personnel took him to the Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center.
Third Matson Alaska box ship now fitted with scrubber
Matson, Inc. (NYSE: MATX) has welcomed Matson Anchorage back to Alaska following three months of work to upgrade the vessel, including the installation of new equipment that virtually eliminates particulate matter and sulfur from the vessel's engine exhaust, making it one of the cleanest ships operating in Alaska. Originally delivered by Bay Shipbuilding, Sturgeon Bay, WI, in 1987 as the Sea-Land Anchorage the ship the last of Matson's three D7 Class containerships serving Alaska to receive the new equipment.
