Repairs at Tenerife Shipyard completed
The underwater work carried out by Tenerife Shipyards on the bow bulb of the “Marie Curie” has allowed the Maritime Authority of Tenerife to authorise the departure of the ship, four days after the mishap that occurred during the docking manoeuvre on its arrival from Huelva, when a generator failure left the ship without propulsion, so it hit the dock and suffered a leak. The resolution of the problem by Tenerife Shipyards has prevented it from having to enter ASTICAN, a possibility that had initially been considered. On FEb 3 at 3:30 p.m., the ship left its berth in the East dock, in the plot assigned to Tenerife Shipyards, and made a large part of the journey to the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at a speed of 21 knots, where it has rejoined the Huelva line.
Three damaged ferries in Spanish yards
While the “Bentayga Cargo” returnedfrom its first trip to Huelva after the mishap of the “Marie Curie” on Jan 30 in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the damaged ship arrived at the Tenerife Shipyards on Feb 2 in the East dock, where work has commenced to repair part of the damage, so that the Maritime Authority of Tenerife authorizes it to sail to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, to enter the ASTICAN shipyard. The “Ciudad de Ibiza” is also in ASTICAN, where it has beensince Dec 26, 2024, for repairs of the damage it had suffered on Dec 18 during the maneuver to change berths amid strong winds and a pilot on board in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in which it damaged two sections of the hull on the starboard side. It was estimated that the ship may return to the services of the Armas Trasmediterránea Grou this week. The “Volcán de Tauce” has been moored since Jan 14 at the Santa Catalina dock in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, after resolving the technical trouble that altered the La Palma line in December by inserting the catamaran “Volcán de Tirajana”. Ferry breached in allision
On the early morning Jan 30, 2025, the 'Marie Currie', en route from Huelva, sufffered a blackout when approaching the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The ship got out of control and allided with the quay during the docking manoever. The ship suffered a leak at the bulbous bow with ensuing water ingress, which could be contained by the crew with the means available on board. The Maritime Authority, bnned the ferry from sailing, which was awaiting a damage assessment and a decision regarding a repair at the Astican Shipyard. The cargo which was destined to the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was transferred to the Fred. Olsen Cargo Express ferry “Bahía Cargo”. Balearia has scheduled the “Bentayga Cargo” as a freighter for the Huelva line and a double rotation for its twin “Bahía Cargo” on the eastern line. The Maritime Authority of Tenerife authorised the transfer of the “Marie Curie” from the dock at the riverside quay to the second alignment of the eastern dock, where Tenerife Shipyards is carrying out a makeshift repair that will allow it to travel to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to enter the Astican Yard for permanent repairs, if it is finally deemed necessary.
