Marcos assisted in scuttling of ferry off Svendborg
On Oct 4, 2014, the "Marcos" jointly with the tug "Naja" towed the decomissioned Danish railway ferry "Ærøsund II" 873 gt (IMO-No.: 7034713), from Svendborg to a scuttling site off Funes near Øhav, about 10 kilometers SW of Svendborg. Surrounded by crowds of pleasure boats, the ferry was scuttled as an artificial reef on Oct 5 at 3 p.m. 600 meters from the shore. Naturturisme I/S was expecting the wreck to become a major tourist attraction in the region as a new underwater habitate. All pollutants had been removed from the ship before, and the hull was ballasted with sand. It foundered within a few minutes after the vents in the bottom were opened on even keel, allowing divers to check the wreck the same afternoon.
