Tanker approached by skiffs
On Feb 11, 2020, the 'Maran Gas Sparta' reported a suspicious approach by nine skiffs within the Sao Tomé and Principe EEZ 47 miles northwest of Sao Tomé, sailing at around 19 knots at the time of the incident. The approach/boarding phase likely occurred prior to the reported time as it appeared that around 9 a.m. LT the vessel started shifting her course. The vessel employed anti-piracy measures, including changing course from south to southwest and increased its speed. As a result of the measures, the skiffs aborted their approac attempt to board and regrouped. The vessel then continued its southerly voyage.
