Dredger boarded by intruders

Fri Apr 26 10:22:46 CEST 2019 Timsen

On April 24, 2019 at 05.10 a.m. the Cyprus-flagged tug "Union Topaz" was towing the "Magnor" five miles west-north-west of Nipa island, Indonesia, when two perpetrators boarded the dredger. Two wooden boats were sighted alongside. The master of the tug shone light at the backhoe dredger, and the two perpetrators escaped with the wooden boats. The crew was safe and no items were reported stolen. The pilot on board the tug reported the incident to Singapore’s VTIS who initiated the safety navigational broadcast and notified the Singapore Police Coast Guard, the RSN and the Indonesian authority.

Fri Apr 08 09:36:02 CEST 2016 arnekiel

The Ravestein built backhoe dredger MAGNOR, currently being fiting out for delivery to Boskalis will be the largest and most efficient backhoe dredger in the world. Two large deck cranes are fitted for work on- and changing of the equipment (boom, stick and bucket) of the excavator. The vessel includes all the necessary equipment such as a large deck workshop, stores, machinery and an accommodation fully outfitted to receive a crew of eight. With the spuds of 40 m length, she will be able to dredge to depths of 32 m. The biggest bucket will have a capacity of 45 m3, nearly 1½ times the volume of a 20’ ISO container. One of the spuds located fore is mounted in a carrier to move it precisely whilst working. The excavator, based on a Caterpillar 6090, was completely re-built by and to suit Boskalis needs.
