Stranded container ship gets go-ahead to dock in Elizabeth
A container ship that has been waiting offshore for more than two weeks to unload at Maher Terminals LLC in Elizabeth has finally received authority to dock, but still must wait for an available berth on Thursday morning, according to an official at Hanjin Shipping Co. The Korean shipper’s bankruptcy filing earlier this month triggered the crisis. The Hanjin Miami is loaded with televisions, computers and other merchandise headed for retailers, Radak said, and according to news reports it was one of about 30 Hanjin container ships around the world still stranded as of Sunday. http://www.northjersey.com/news/stranded-container-ship-gets-go-ahead-to-dock-in-elizabeth-1.1663365
A Hanjin Ship Can't Dock Because It Has No Plan to Leave
Without a way to leave, the ship could tie up a berth. Failed South Korean cargo line Hanjin Shipping found the money to unload a full container ship waiting outside a New York-area port. But before the vessel was allowed to dock, it faced another problem: a plan to get back out to sea. The predicament of the Hanjin Miami, one of 10 U.S.-bound ships stranded by the Hanjin bankruptcy, illustrates one way that disputes over ships, ocean containers and even truck trailers to haul the shipping boxes have stranded at sea some $14 billion of goods around the world. Since filing for court receivership on August 31, the world’s seventh-largest container carrier has caused chaos for many retailers at a time when they are getting goods for the holiday shopping season. http://fortune.com/2016/09/21/hanjin-container-ship-dock/
