Coast Guard ship called to sinking work boat
The KV 'Heimdal' was called to the aid of the work boat 'Duplo', that went down in Sortlandssundet on Oct 13, 2024, after taking on water. One man in his 20s was on board. However, he made it safely to a nearby fishing boat before the "Duplo" sank. The MRCC received a report about the boat at 1.17 p.m. via Coastal Radio. The "Heimdal" moved out, but the boat had already sunk when the Coast Guard arrived on the scene. A smaller boat of the Sjøbjørn type has been deployed to remove driftwood in the sea where the 'Duplo' sank, as the 'Heimdal' was further away. An investigation case has been opened by the police. The reason why the boat took on water was still unknown.
