On Nov 4, 2020, the SAR helicopter Pesca 2 was mobilized by Salvamento Marítimo for the medical evacuation of a crew member of the “Kapsali” which was sailing in the North Atlantic 120 miles Northwest of Celeiro. The patient was taken to the Celeiro base and from there he was transported by ambulance to the Quirón hospitla in A Coruña.

Master medevaced off Isle of Wight

Thu Aug 23 11:33:44 CEST 2012 Timsen

The Bembridge RNLI lifeboat crew went to the aid of a man who had been injured aboard the "Kapsali" in the night of Aug 19, 2012. The ship was on passage in ballast from Rotterdam to Gibraltar and was approximately 35 miles south of the Isle of Wight when the master sustained a suspected broken ankle after falling whilst walking the deck. In discussions with Solent Coastguard it was determined an evacuation to hospital was required, but due to heavy fog affecting many parts of the Solent and the channel, the rescue helicopter had been grounded. The "Kapsali" was asked to turn about and head for the anchorage area off Sandown on the Isle of Wight. It was estimated that, with the distance required to travel before reaching the anchorage, the tanker would arrive at 1 a.m. At 1.20 a.m. the Bembridge RNLI’s Tamar class lifeboat was launched to assist in the evacuation of the captain of the "Kapsali" that had now anchored at the Nab anchorage. When the lifeboat crew arrived on scene at 1.36 a.m. with the "Kapsali" her the crew were rigging the boarding ladder down the portside for the lifeboat crew to transfer a volunteer to oversee the evacuation operation. Once the boarding ladder was in place one crew member was transferred to the "Kapsali". He was taken into the cabin where the Captain was being cared for by the first mate. Once he had assessed the situation he advised that the captain would have to be stretchered off. It was decided that the only way to evacuate would be using the ships crane. The tanker crew prepared the crane and when it was ready the hook was lowered some 60 ft down onto the lifeboat deck where the stretcher was clipped on and raised up. The stretcher was moved to the Captain’s cabin and he was assisted into it and secured in place. The stretcher was then carried out on deck and up to the crane, and lowered onto the lifeboat which had been brought alongside. The lifeboat proceeded to Portsmouth Harbour as quickly and safely as possible in what was poor visibility. Once in Portsmouth Harbour the lifeboat berthed at the Camber Docks and were met by the local coastguards and ambulance crew.
