Fire in Nieuwegin

On June 25, 2025, at 4.46 a.m. a fire broke out aboard the 'Jannie', in pos. 51° 49' N 004° 48' E, while en route to Werkendam, in Nieuwegein near the Beatrix lock. The fire brigade from the Nieuwegein-South fire station was mobilized to the fore port dike and deployed two vehicles to fight the fire. The police also attended. Ambulance personnel was present on site to check any crew members of the ship for smoke inhalation. Due to the rapid response from the emergency services, the fire was quickly brought under control. Nothing was known at this time about the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. Further investigations were underway.
