Worker died after fall at Detyen Shipyard in Charleston

A worker died on Nov 11 aboard the 'Jack Lummus' in an accident at Detyen Shipyard in Charleston. He was the third shipyard worker to die on the same ship since 2019. He was identified on Nov 13 as Hugo Antonio, 41. He died from blunt force trauma after falling into a fuel tank from an upper deck, according to reports from North Charleston police and the Charleston County Coroner. He was not wearing a safety harness when he was found. According to a 2022 investigative report, two other workers died aboard the 'Jack Lummus' since 2019. In April 2019, Juan Villalobos Hernández, 43, was crushed to death on the ships, and in July 2022, Claudio Muñoz Bustos, 63, suffered a fatal fall in the engine room. Antonio is the fifth worker to die at Detyen's since 2019, and the fourth to die on a ship owned by the US government.
