Fish carrier disabled off Argyll

The "Inter Caledonia" with eight people on board sent out a mayday call after a power loss on Jan 31, 2018, at around 1 a.m. about a quarter of a mile off the coast in the Sound of Luing, south-west of Oban. The Coastguard alerted the Oban lifeboat at 1.06 a.m., and it left her temporary berth with a crew of seven, proceeding to the the vessel’s position along with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick and Oban’s Coastguard Rescue Team. Another fish carrier, the "Ronja Challenger" (IMO: 9765067), also had responded to the Coastguard’s request for assistance and stood by the casualty vessel as a generator was used to restore its power. She regained power to one of her engines, lifted her anchor and started to make her way to safer water. The volunteer crew arrived with the vessel at 2.22am, escorting her to a safe anchorage. The vessel made it safely to shore in Craobh Haven, Argyll.
