Three more positive COVID 19 tests
South Korean health authorities said on July 16 that three crewmen on the 'Ice StreamÄ' which remained at the quay in Busan have tested positive for the coronavirus. More cases could come from the ship as it carried 29 crew members. Test results on other seafarers, currently isolated on the ship, were expected to be announced soon.
Ship's operator lied about health status of crew before docking
South Korea's southern port city Busan was gripped with virus fear" after the emergence of COVID 19 cluster. At least 16 infections were among the crew of 21 on board the 'Ice Stream'. The number of port workers and sailors who came into contact with the crew, as identified by the health authorities, has grown to 211 - up from 176 the previous day. 39 of them tested negative as of June 24 afternoon. The ship was allowed to dock on June 20 after submitting quarantine papers electronically, and quarantine officials did not board the vessel to conduct physical checks. The ship's operator was found to have lied to South Korean officials on June 19 when he said no one was ill. Three crew members were found with symptoms during a routine check on June 20 and 16 tested positive the next day.
16 of 19 crew members tested positive for COVID-19 virus
16 of the 19 Russian crew members aboard the 'Ice Stream' were tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on June 22, 2020, in the port of Busan. The ship had arrived on June 21, coming from Vladivostok. About 160 more people, including dockers and ship repair technicians, were put under quarantine as a consequence.
