Engine failure in Canakkale Strait
The 'Himalaya', enroute from Tuzla to Larnaca, suffered an engine failure, loss of power and went adrifting at Eceabat point in the Canakkale Strait on Nov 24, 2020, at 11 p.m. The tug 'Kurtarma-6' and a fast rescue boat along with a technical team assisted. Subsequently, the vessel was secured by the tug, and the ship was towed to Karanlik liman anchorage. During the towage operation, a temporarily restricted zone for all types of marine traffic was established in the area. An incident investigation file has been placed by both Harbour Master and Strait authority. The vessel has been imposed a fine due a to breach of the safe passage regulation. The ship remained moored in pos. 40° 0.81' N 026° 16.29' E as of Nov 26.
