Trawler in trouble
On Oct 13 at 12:09 a.m., the CROSS Jobourg receives a mayday call from the fishing vessel 'La Presqu’ile'indicating a major water ingress on board. The ship was 12 nautical miles northwest of Fécamp with four crew members on board. The CROSS immediately broadcasted a Mayday relay. The fishing vessels 'Marie Galante I' and 'Daniel Auguste' then diverted to provide assistance. The CROSS dployed a Caïman helicopter of the French Navy base in Maupertus and the lifeboat 'President Pierre Huby' of the SNSM station in Le Havre. Despite difficult weather conditions with rough seas, thehelicopter dropped off a diver aboard the vessel who noted that the water ingress was too strong to be controlled by the available pumps. Following a consultation with the CROSS Jobourg, it was then decided to evacuate the four fishermen to the Fécamp semaphore of the French Navy. The CROSS also initiated a conference call with the SAMU in Toulouse and the Seine-Maritime departmental fire and rescue center. A reception by the firefighters is recommended. At 2:14 a.m., the four fishermen were hoisted on board the Caiman helicopter and transported to the Fécamp semaphore. They were dropped off at 2:21 a.m. where they are taken care of by the firefighters. The CROSS asked the fishing vessel 'Marie Galante I' to remain near the 'La Presquîle' until the arrival of the SNSM boat from Le Havre. Following the agreement of the port authorities of Le Havre, it was decided to pull the 'Presqu’ile' back to the port of Antifer. The convoy arrives safely at the port at 9:50 a.m. French report with photo: https://www.premar-manche.gouv.fr/communiques-presse/operation-de-sauvetage-4-personnes-evacuees-et-un-navire-de-peche-remorque-au-nord-ouest-de-fecamp
