Near miss in Furusundsleden

In the afternoon of March 13, 2018, at 3.30 p.m. the ferry "Frida" serving the route between Köpmanholm and Furusund was close to a collision with the "Amorella" in Furusundsleden. The "Frida" was loaded with 18 cars and a truck, when the "Amorella" approached. 15.30 when Frida left Köpmanholm's ferry position on Yxlan, heading towards Furusund as the incident occurred. On board Frida had 18 passenger cars and a truck. At the same time, the Blidösund company's vessel "Riddarfjärden" was about to leave the nearby Köpmanholm Pier. The "Amorella" came from the north, but the "Frida"'s captain's attention was caught by the "Riddarfjärden", and he did not remark the approaching ship. The "Amorella" signaled repeatedly, and the "Frida"'s guard alerted his captain so the ship backed up in the last moment. Thanks to the quick reaction of the helmsman of the "Frida" the collision could be avoided by only 10-50 meters according to witnesses after she went full astern. At the time of the near miss the visibility was low in Furusundsleden. The case will now be investigated by both the Trafikverket-Färjerederiet and the Viking Line.
