Obe seaman rescued after the fire on board the "Eren Turgut" off the Kent coast on Christmas Eve has died in hospital on Dec 27. He was one of three crew members flown by RAF helicopter to Margate after inhaling smoke. The two other crewmen are in a critical condition and have been moved to other hospitals from the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at Margate. The vessel meanwhile sailed into the Netherlands' territorial waters.

The "Eren Turgut" after the fire on its voyage from Abidjan to Grove Wharf, on Dec 25 was still anchored in the area of the Sandettie LV, and it is still under the protection of the ETV "Anglian Monarch".
