Flumina hit the bottom
On the Scheldt in Bornem the "Flumina", loaded with about 280 tonnes of barley, suffered water ingress between Mariekerke and Weert, probably after having hit an obstruction on the bottom of the Scheldt, on Oct 26, 2011. The skipper felt he had hit something and was still able to navigate the ship to the jetty in Bornem. There was already a considerable amount of water in the cargo hold. The Bornem fire brigade was called to pump the water from out and keep the ship from sinking. When most of the water was pumped out, the crack was temporarily sealed and the barge sail to a wharf for final repairs. The barley was not affected by the water ingress.
