Fire gutted engine room
Two crews of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Servicewere called to the "Flamborough Light" at the South Pier in Stromness in the morning of June 18, 2015, at 7.29 a.m. When the fire-crews arrived there was a well-established fire in the engine room of the boat. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two main jets to tackle the blaze, which they had under control by 8.04 a.m. Crews then dampened the area down and used a thermal imaging camera to check for any signs of fire spread. The last appliance left the scene at 9.36 a.m. The blaze caused considerable damage to the engine room of the boat, which was docked. All of the crew were away from the vessel when the fire broke out. The police believed that the cause of the fire was an electrical fault, but this was still to be confirmed.
